Description: Suspicious Persons/Activities/Circumstances
Location: Canyon House

Notes: A CSO responded to a safety concern at Canyon House. The CSO met with a student who reported that their window was not secured and they were worried it had been tampered with as a result of an attempted break-in. The CSO inspected the window and discovered no signs of forced entry, but noted that it was in need of repair. The CSO informed the student of their discovery, and placed a work order to fix the window.

Description: Evidence of Drug Use
Location: Campus

Notes: A CSO on patrol observed smoke and encountered the distinctive odor of cannabis while passing between Foster-Scholz and the Performing Arts Building. The CSO trailed the smoke and discovered two students, one of whom was using a cannabis blunt. The CSO greeted the students, reminded them that cannabis was not allowed on college property, and confiscated the remainder of the cannabis.

Location: North Lot

Notes: Community Safety Dispatch received a telephone report from a staff member that the staff member’s car had been noticeably rummaged through while it had been parked in the West Lot. The staff member stated that they had left their vehicle unlocked, and that nothing of note appeared to be missing.

Description: Evidence of Drug Use
Location: Pool Hall

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of a strong odor of cannabis emanating from the GCC pool hall. Upon arrival, the CSO also encountered the odor of cannabis and asked the pool pall manager if they were aware of anyone recently smoking cannabis in the pool hall. The manager replied that they had stepped away from the pool hall for a short while and did not know who could have been smoking cannabis inside the pool hall. The CSO was unable to locate the source of the odor and returned to their patrol duties.

Notes: A CSO performing an inspection of the Community Safety Subaru patrol vehicle observed new damage to the front license plate and front bumper.

Description: Unattended Alcohol or Drugs
Location: Cross Canyon Dorms

Notes: A CSO on patrol outside the Griffin dormitory encountered two students holding what appeared to be alcoholic beverages. When the CSO acknowledged them with a greeting, both students immediately departed inside the residence hall, one of the students leaving their drink behind. The CSO confirmed that it was an alcoholic beverage and properly disposed of it. Neither student returned to the area and the CSO continued on their patrol.

Description: Alcohol Violation
Location: Naito/Sullivan

Notes: A CSO on patrol in Sullivan observed that students in the common room were hiding what appeared to be alcoholic beverages. The CSO announced their presence and informed them of what they saw. One of the students located the hidden bottles for the CSO and five other students left the area without any further interaction. The student confirmed that they were not of legal drinking age. The CSO thanked the student for their honesty and relayed that they would have to confiscate the alcohol. The CSO properly disposed of the alcoholic beverages and continued on their patrol.

Location: Trillium

Notes: A CSO on patrol in Trillium encountered a can of unattended beer in a second floor common area. The CSO, unable to find the owner of the beverage, properly disposed of the alcoholic beverage and continued on their patrol.

CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
