Description: Theft of Motor Vehicle
Location: West Lot

Notes: A CSO responded to a community member’s report that their car had been stolen from the West Parking Lot. The reporting party filed a police report after giving Community Safety a description of the vehicle.

Location: Sports Center

Notes: A CSO on patrol near the Sports Center noticed evidence of tampering on a Reed van. Upon inspection, the gas tank had been drilled into and the lock to the door had been damaged.

Description: Unauthorized Entry
Location: Birchwood Apartments

Notes: A Reed facilities staff member reported a possible unauthorized individual in the Birchwood apartments. CSOs entered the apartment and found evidence of an individual living in the apartment, which was supposed to be unoccupied. The CSOs were able to determine how the individual had entered but did not find anyone present. The CSOs secured the unit and cleared the scene.

Description: Unauthorized Entry
Location: Birchwood Apartments

Notes: A CSO on patrol of the Birchwood apartments noted evidence of an individual living in a Birchwood apartment. Given the trespass report from the previous day, the CSOs called the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). After the PPB officers confirmed that the apartment was clear, the CSOs secured the apartment.

Description: Suspicious Person/Activity/Circumstances
Location: Central Campus

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of an unknown individual smoking something through a makeshift pipe near the GCC. The CSO encountered the individual, and recognized them as a previous trespasser and asked them to leave campus. The individual agreed and began to leave campus, but proceeded to stop walking multiple times. The CSO reminded the individual that where they had stopped was still part of the campus. The CSO continued to follow the individual from a safe distance until the individual was off campus.

Description: Evidence of Drug Use
Location: Cross Canyon Dorms

Notes: A CSO on patrol of the Cross Canyon residence halls encountered the smell of cannabis from a dorm room in the Cross Canyons, but was unable to locate the exact location from which the odor was emanating.

Description: Unauthorized Entry
Location: Birchwood Apartments

Notes: A CSO on patrol of the Birchwood apartments noted evidence of someone possibly residing in one of the Birchwood units. Upon inspection, the apartment was empty but with clear signs of occupancy. The CSO called for assistance from a CSM to secure the apartment. A work order has been submitted for clean up of the apartment.

CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
