Notes: A student reported to Community Safety that their friend, while accompanying a separate friend at a medical facility, experienced a medical emergency and would be staying at the medical facility longer than initially planned.

Notes: Community Safety Dispatch received an email from a neighbor stating that they had encountered a non-Reed vehicle that had one of the “Community Safety” magnets affixed to the side of it. The email continued that the sender had been able to take a photo of the vehicle, but shortly afterward the vehicle was driven away. The photo of the vehicle was attached to the email. CSOs were dispatched to search for the vehicle, but were unable to locate it.

Description: Medical Assist
Location: Residence Hall

Notes: A CSO responded to a request for medical assistance in a residence hall. There, the CSO met with a student that had injured their finger. The CSO provided basic first aid to the student and then resumed their duties.

Description: Theft of Motor Vehicle
Location: Birchwood Apartment Complex

Notes: A student arrived at 28 West to report that their electric scooter had been stolen from the bike rack it was secured to outside of the Birchwood Apartments. A CSO took their statement and advised the student on how to file an online report.

Description: Theft of Motor Vehicle
Location: West Lot

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from the West Lot. The CSO met with the owner, a student, who stated that they had last seen the vehicle when they had parked it, approximately one week prior. The CSO sympathized with the student and encouraged them to also file a police report.

Description: Medical Assist - Alcohol
Location: Residence Hall

Notes: A CSO responded to a request for medical assistance in a residence hall. There, the CSO met with a student who stated that they had drank too much alcohol. After the CSO assessed the student using the yellow card, “Signs of Alcohol or Other Drug Overdose Emergencies,” they determined that the student was not exhibiting any symptoms requiring urgent medical attention. The CSO offered care options and the student declined medical assistance. The CSO determined that the student could be left with their friends who stated that they would remain with them and assisted the student in returning to their room. The CSO cleared from the call.

Description: Cannabis Use or Possession
Location: Front Lawn

Notes: A CSO on patrol near the Front Lawn encountered the odor of cannabis. Upon approaching the area from which the odor was emanating, the CSO encountered two students sitting at a picnic table. When the CSO shared their observations with them, the students confirmed they had been smoking cannabis. The CSO reminded the students that consumption of cannabis on campus property is not consistent with college policy. The students apologized, and in turn the CSO apologized for the awkwardness of the encounter and returned to their patrol.

 

CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
