Case #: 230422
Date: 2023 11 19
Time: 15:34
Description: Suspicious Person/Activity/Circumstances
Location: Library

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of a large group of vehicles driving onto campus. The vehicles were sporting pro-Israel slogans and Israeli flags. The CSO observed that some occupants in the vehicles were honking the vehicle horns and yelling at a group of students who had gathered on the sidewalk near Eliot Circle. The CSO remained on the scene to observe and report the interactions in case Portland Police assistance was required. After approximately 15 minutes, the caravan began to leave the campus. A few vehicles remained at the scene, as the drivers of those vehicles had exited the vehicles during the verbal altercation. A community member approached the CSO to express their concern regarding one of the vehicle drivers who had approached students in a threatening manner. The CSO began taking photos of the vehicle and driver, and that time the driver got back into their vehicle and exited campus, along with the other vehicles that had remained behind. After all vehicles had exited campus, the CSO attempted to gather statements from students who had interacted with the non-community members, but they were unable to find anyone willing to provide a statement. The CSO then cleared the scene.

CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.

Escort Below expectations The CSO who helped me out was really nice, but the understaffing issue is clear. It took fifteen minutes for the dispatcher to find someone who could pick me up and bring me to the HCC from a spot less than a block off of campus. My medical issue ended up being relatively okay, but if it had been more severe that response period could've been a major issue.
