Location: Campus

Notes: At the request of a Reed campus employee supervisor, the Community Safety Director issued a written exclusion to an individual who had been terminated from their campus employment.

Location: 28 West

Notes: A CSO performing a vehicle inspection of the CS Subuaru observed that the back windshield wiper had been forcibly removed. A work order has been placed for replacement of the missing part.

Description: Theft of Motor Vehicle
Location: Library

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of motor vehicle theft from the outside of the library. The CSO met with a student whose electric bicycle had been stolen. The student stated that the bike had a tracker on it and the last known location was outside of the Trillium residence hall. The CSO performed a patrol of the area, but did not encounter the bike. The CSO advised the student to file a report with the police, and to contact Community Safety should the bike tracker again indicate a nearby location.

Notes: Community Safety received a report from a student that their name and image had been used in an anti-semitic social media post. The student stated that they were not concerned for their safety at that time, but wanted Community Safety to be aware of the post.

Description: Unattended Alcohol
Location: Pool Hall

Notes: A CSO on patrol found a distributable amount of unsecured alcohol in the Pool Hall manager’s office. Because all students who have authorization to access the office are under legal drinking age, the CSO confiscated the alcohol.

Notes: A student notified Community Safety that they had been contacted from an outside group about the events on campus regarding the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict. After meeting with members of the administration, it was concluded that the student should be in direct contact with Reed’s liaison for law enforcement, the Community Safety Director.

Description: Suspicious Person/Activity/Circumstances
Location: Birchwood Apartments

Notes: CSOs responded to a report of suspicious activity at the Birchwood apartments. The CSOs met with the reporting party, who stated that they had heard possible sounds of a verbal altercation and a struggle in the apartment courtyard. The CSOs performed a full search of the complex followed by an approximate 20 minute observational period. After neither observing nor witnessing any signs of possible continuing conflict or other suspicious circumstances, the CSOs cleared the scene.

Description: Medical Assist
Location: 28 West

Notes: A student arrived at 28 West for medical assistance. After being assessed by CSOs, emergency medical services (EMS) were called to further attend to the student. EMS arrived and after assessing the student, determined the student did not need to be transported. The student departed 28 West in the company of their friend.

Description: Medical Transport
Location: Campus

Notes: The CSD responded to a request for medical assistance near a residence hall. The CSD met with a student who had consumed a large amount of alcohol and was feeling unwell. After assessing the student’s condition, the CSD determined that emergency medical services (EMS) response was required. EMS arrived and the student was transported to a medical facility for further care.

Description: Alcohol Violation
Location: Central Campus

Notes: A CSO on patrol encountered a student who was carrying a container that, based on the CSO’s experience, appeared to contain alcohol. As the container was of a distributable size, the CSO requested to inspect the container’s contents. At that time the student stated that the bottle contained alcohol. The student confirmed that they were not of legal drinking age and handed the bottle to the CSO. The CSO disposed of the alcohol and continued on their patrol.

Notes: A CSO responded to a request for medical assistance. The CSO met with a student concerned about experiencing a reaction to a known allergen to which they had been exposed. The student was transported by American Medical Response to a medical facility for further observation.

Description: Unattended Alcohol
Location: Pool Hall

Notes: A CSO on patrol of the GCC encountered small travel-sized shampoo bottles filled with an unknown liquid that smelled strongly of alcohol. The CSO collected the bottles and took them to 28 West for safe-keeping and documentation.

Description: Medical Assist
Location: Campus

Notes: CSOs responded to a request for medical assistance. They met with a couple of students who were assisting a student who had consumed a large amount of alcohol. After assessing the student using the Yellow card, “Signs of Alcohol or Other Drug Overdose Emergencies,” the CSOs determined that the student should undo further assessment by medical professionals. Emergency Medical Services (EMS) were called, and after being assessed by paramedics, the student declined transportation. The CSOs then escorted the student to their residence and left them in the company of their friends who stated that they would remain with their intoxicated friend for the evening.

Notes: A CSO responded to multiple reports of flooding at the Birchwood Apartments. The CSO confirmed that multiple units had experienced flooding. Building services was called for immediate remediation and the affected residents were provided with alternate on-campus housing.

Location: Grove Lot

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of property damage in the Grove lot. Upon arrival, the CSO encountered a vehicle that had had its rear driver’s side window shattered. The vehicle’s owner was not able to be identified.

Description: Suspicious Person/Activity/Circumstances
Location: Off Campus

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of suspicious activity. The CSO met with a student who reported the while on a run near campus, the student observed that a car had followed them. The student stated that the car had followed them through a neighborhood and back onto campus. Once on campus, the student entered an academic building and called the police. The vehicle left before police responded. The student provided a description of the vehicle to Community Safety. The student described the vehicle as a dark gray Porsche Taycan that had Washington state license plates.



CS Survey Responses:

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
