Location: Campus

Notes: CSOs responded to a report of a missing child. The child’s parent stated that the child was last seen in the canyon. CSOs and additional Reed community members commenced a search of the canyon, and the child was located within approximately 15 minutes.

Location: Northern campus

Notes: A CSO responded to a report of an upset student. The CSO located the student and offered assistance. The student stated that they were waiting for a friend to meet them to provide support. The CSO offered to escort the student to their residence, which they declined. The CSO provided the student with a pink emergency numbers card and also recommended that the student contact the HCC if they desired professional assistance.

Notes: A CSO on patrol in the canyon encountered two trees with graffiti sprayed on them. The CSO submitted a work order to remove the graffiti.

Location: Academic Building

Notes: A CSO responded to a student’s request for medical assistance near an academic building. The student relayed that they were experiencing symptoms of a known medical condition and requested an escort back to their residence. The CSO provided a vehicle escort and cleared the scene once the student confirmed that no further assistance was needed at that time.

Location: Residence Hall

Notes: A CSO responded to a student’s request for medical assistance in a residence hall. The CSO arrived at the student’s residence, provided initial first aid for an injury the student had received, and remained on scene until the HA and the Community Safety Manager arrived to provide further assistance.

Notes: A CSO on patrol encountered 3 pieces of fresh graffiti– including “FARTS” and an existential soliloquy–  scattered throughout interior hallways of the Science Buildings. The CSO submitted work orders for the removal of the graffiti.

Notes: Community Safety Dispatch received phoned in report from a caller who stated they had hit another person’s vehicle in North Lot. The Dispatcher requested the help of a Community Safety Manager in responding to the unique report, and the call got disconnected midway through. The Dispatcher tried calling back, but the individual did not pick up.

Notes: Community Safety received a request for medical assistance and organized medical transport for the afflicted individual.

Location: Campus

Notes: CSOs responded to a report regarding a student exhibiting concerning behavior. Upon arrival, the CSOs confirmed with the student that they had been drinking alcohol. The CSOs properly disposed of the remaining alcohol, and escorted the student to their residence.

Description: Dog Owner Contact
Location: Sports Field

Notes: A CSO on patrol of the Sports Field encountered two unleashed dogs. When the CSO approached the dog owners to remind them to leash their dogs, the CSO was forced to perform a self-defense action when one of the unleashed dogs lunged at them. The owners then became verbally aggressive and the CSO then asked the owners to leave campus, which they did.

Notes: A CSO on patrol near the Garden House encountered two students who appeared to be smoking a cannabis joint. The CSO reminded the students that smoking cannabis on college property was against college policy, and the student holding the joint broke apart and destroyed the remainder of it.

Notes: CSOs responded to a report of a threat of violence toward the Community Safety department.

Notes: A CSO responded to a report that a member of the Reed community had been physically assaulted by another community member. Community Safety offered to connect them to campus resources, which they declined.

 

CS Survey Responses

Every week Community Safety requests survey responses from those who've had interactions with a member of the Community Safety team. These responses are always collected anonymously with the option for the responder to leave contact information if they would like for a member of Community Safety management to contact them, and are used internally for departmental performance tracking. Community Safety has opted to publish these survey results for transparency and community accountability. *Names and pronouns mentioned in survey responses will be redacted to protect the privacy of individuals.

In addition to surveys sent directly to those who have interacted with Community Safety, the Reed community is always encouraged to independently complete the survey regarding Community Safety's performance.
