Reed President Bilger meets with U.S. Vice President Harris
In a roundtable discussion, higher education leaders discussed reproductive rights with the nation's Vice President.
At the invitation of the White House, Reed President Audrey Bilger met on August 8th in Washington with Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to discuss access to reproductive health care following the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
President Bilger joined chancellors and presidents from the City University of New York, Dartmouth College, Gallaudet University, Howard University, Oberlin College, Tennessee State University, and the University of California, Irvine. American Council on Education President Ted Mitchell moderated the roundtable event, where each leader offered brief remarks followed by a press opportunity.
“ÃÛÌÒÉç is fortunate to have made its home in Oregon,” President Bilger noted. “In Oregon, there may be relative safety, but college students are vulnerable to having their rights undermined simply by leaving this state to return to their hometowns, to engage in internships or conduct research elsewhere in the United States. Reed is committed to making sure our students have access to information they may need to understand their rights no matter where their educational plans and aspirations may lead.”
