February 5th, 2025 at 12:00 PM noon, Pacific Time
Application Steps
Your complete internal application must be received by the internal deadline, and consists of filling out the online application in the Udall application portal, transcript(s) sent by email, two internal letters of recommendation sent by email, and a filling out an online waiver form.
Online Application
For the internal application, you'll use the online application on the Udall site. Email clbrfellowships@reed.edu to request access to the application.
- Fill out the entire online application and submit it for review within the system prior to the internal application deadline. This includes a draft of your 800 word Udall essay.
- If you have any trouble submitting your application, email us to let us know. As long as you've saved your responses in the application, we'll still be able to access your application for the committee to review.
Transcripts
Email an unofficial copy of your transcript to clbrfellowships@reed.edu by the internal application deadline. If your transcript lists transfer credits or study abroad credits, but no grades, we require transcripts from the transferring or study abroad institution.Internal Letters of Recommendation
Have two people submit internal letters of support/recommendation to clbrfellowships@reed.edu by the internal application deadline. Your recommenders need to be able to speak to your leadership, public service and academic achievements. Give them this link to from the Udall website as well. You're welcome to use the request for recommendation forms in the online application, but make certain to let your recommenders know that the internal recommendations can be more informal than the final letters.
Make sure to give your recommenders several weeks notice and read our guidance on requesting letters of recommendation.
If you are nominated, you will need a third recommender for the final application.
Waiver
You will need to complete this online waiver form as the final step in submitting your internal application.
Applicants submitting application materials electronically by email will generally receive a confirmation within twenty-four hours. If you do not receive a confirmation during this time, please follow up with the Center for Life Beyond Reed at clbrfellowships@reed.edu to ensure that the application was successfully submitted.
Next Steps
The faculty fellowships and awards committee will review applications during the week after the deadline. You'll hear back about the status of your application within two weeks of submitting your application.
If you are nominated by the college, we'll return your application to you so that you may continue to work on it. You'll need to reach out to your recommenders to let them know that you'll need formal letters of recommendation for the national competition, and ask for a letter from a third recommender. Those letters will need to be on signed letterhead and sent to clbrfellowships@reed.edu. At this point you should make use of CLBR advisors, your academic advisor, or any other trusted advisors for feedback upon your application.
You'll then need to submit your application a couple days before the national deadline. Staff in CLBR will need time to upload your transcript and recommendation letters and finalize your application for submission to the Udall Foundation.
